By the end of January 2007 Anchorage had received 74 inches of snow, well above the nomal 68 inches. But during the winter of 1955-56 more than 132 inches fell on the city. In this photo you can see some of that snow and how we were able to get in and out of my families house in Spenard.

Two views of an abandoned dredge on Wade Creek along the Taylor Highway. Photos taken in August 2007. In October of that year the BLM demolished the dredge because it was a safety hazard.

It's a bit unusual to see a bull moose with antlers in January, but this fellow wandered through the yard this afternoon (1/9/08). He sampled a rose bush, a peony, some Chokecherry and the Siberian Crag Apple seen here.
